Device data sheet in PDF format

In a tribotester, a flat, round or spherical counter-sample is pressed against the sample with a precisely known force. The counter-sample is mounted on a rigid element. The friction coefficient is determined during the test by measuring the elastic deformation of the arm using appropriate strain gauges. The linear wear coefficient of the sample and counter-sample is measured using a precision position (wear) sensor. This simple method allows the friction and wear of almost any known combination of materials in a solid state to be tested, with or without lubrication. Control of test parameters such as speed, frequency, pressure, time, temperature and humidity allows the typical conditions of a given friction pair to be simulated.

High-temperature trybotester v3

An important feature of Elbit's tribotester is the ability to terminate the test upon reaching a predetermined time, distance, or wear depth. The tribotester can perform reciprocating motion while measuring the friction coefficient in both directions of displacement. This allows for the examination of changes in static and kinetic coefficients of friction over time. As an additional option, tribotesters can be equipped with a housing that allows for controlling the atmosphere with variable humidity and temperature.

A special case is the ability to conduct tests in a vacuum. Another option is various interchangeable chambers:

- water (wet) for tribological testing of components submerged in lubricant, allowing tests at temperatures up to 150°C;

- high-temperature for testing at temperatures up to 900°C. Of course, both chambers have systems for precise stabilization of the set temperature.

Another option is an attachment for automatically testing the electrical conductivity of the rubbing pair, which allows for examining the insulating properties of coatings.

The control software enables:

- real-time calculation of the following values: force, load, distance, rotational speed, friction coefficient, temperature of the rubbing pair, temperature and humidity in the chamber, wear depth, electrical conductivity between the rubbing pair (optional), friction coefficient, wear rate of both rubbing elements, stress;

- adjustment (from the connected computer) of test parameters such as rotational speed, frequency, number of revolutions, friction coefficient threshold, temperature, and time;

- easy archiving of measurement data and export to ASCII or Excel files;

- Ethernet connection and presentation of basic test results during the test on a web page (optional).
