In a tribotester, a flat, round or spherical counter-sample is pressed against the sample with a precisely known force. The counter-sample is mounted on a rigid element. The coefficient of friction is determined during the test by measuring the elastic deformation of the arm using appropriate strain gauges.
The linear wear coefficient of the sample and counter-sample is measured using a precision position (wear) sensor. This simple method allows the friction and wear of almost any known combination of materials in a solid state to be tested, with or without lubrication.
"The control of test parameters such as speed, frequency, pressure, time, temperature, and humidity allows simulating typical conditions present in reality for a given friction pair."
"An important feature of Elbit's tribotester is the ability to terminate the test upon reaching the set time, distance, or wear depth."
"The tribotester can perform reciprocating motion measuring the friction coefficient in both directions of movement. This enables the study of changes in static and kinetic friction coefficients over time."
"As an additional option, tribotesters can be equipped with a housing that allows for controlling the atmosphere with variable humidity and temperature. A special case is the ability to conduct tests in a vacuum."
"Another option is various interchangeable chambers:"
"Of course, both chambers have systems for precise stabilization of the set temperature. Another option is an attachment for automatic testing of the electrical conductivity of the friction pair, which allows for the examination of the insulating properties of coatings."
"The control software enables:"
