The ELBIT company has developed a laboratory device for studying the mobility of animals, the CPP-01. The housing made of transparent acrylic glass contains 64 perpendicular photo-optical barriers arranged in two levels. The electronics record interruptions of individual light beams and determine the position of the object (animal) based on this data. Changes in the object's position over time allow for the determination of trajectory and movement parameters.
The accompanying software allows for tracking up to 10 CPP-01 cages simultaneously. The block diagram of connections is shown in the adjacent figure. Each CPP-01 cage is connected by an individual cable to a single collective power supply. This power supply also functions as a data concentrator. The power supply is connected to the computer via a USB cable.
The CH01 program allows for independent configuration and programming of tests for each of the connected cages.
In the main window associated with a given cage, the light barrier crossing counters for both levels are continuously updated. The length of the object's path and average speed are also calculated in real-time. The program also allows for defining up to four independent zones for each cage and determining the time the object spends in a given zone. Each measurement can be archived on the computer's hard drive. An additional feature of the program is the creation of collective statistics from selected measurements. The program also allows exporting each measurement to a Word format file.
